Elaine Murdoch, CMKBD is Knickerbocker Group's kitchen and bath design specialist. She has been a member of the NKBA since 1987 and currently serves as the Maine Chapter Representative.
Key elements of Elaine’s design included removal of two interior walls to open up the space, and installation of a gorgeous floor to ceiling cabinetry room divider. With double sided glass door display cabinets and bar-top height opening at the center, the piece serves to define the kitchen while allowing long views through the common areas of the house. Support for the second floor is provided by a post hidden within the same cabinetry.
An additional challenge was an already low ceiling that needed to be dropped even further, to accommodate plumbing and electrical service. The solution was found in constructing a perimeter soffit trimmed to create a tray ceiling. A beach glass color pallet and the use of beautiful materials enhance the impact of the design. Handmade pewter cabinet pulls, an unusual tile backsplash, environmentally friendly eucalyptus wood cabinetry and bamboo flooring complete the look.
Thanks to the superior skills of the entire Knickerbocker Group design-build team, the end result is functional and beautiful—a miraculous transformation that has provided a thankful family with a wonderful space in which to live and play!
Congratulations to the Knickerbocker Group project team!
